Albéa & L’Oréal unveil eco-friendly cardboard tube for La Roche-Posay

Beauty group L’Oréal has launched its first product packaged in a paper-based tube, the fruit of a partnership with packaging company Albéa.

Housing La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios suncare product, the tube is the result of a year-long collaboration between the two companies. The tube reduces the amount of plastic used by 45% compared to existing solutions, replacing it with FSC-certified cardboard. The remaining plastic is needed to protect the formula and ensure the tube is water-resistant. The amount of plastic is low enough to allow the tube to be recycled along with paper products.

Albéa had previously announced that it would invest in new lines integrating specific tooling for the paper-based tubes initially in its plant in Poland and potentially also in France.
