Authentic Material, specialized in the creation of upcycled materials for the luxury sector, has partnered with gold coatings specialist Daumet to strengthen its offering for the watchmaking segment.

Daumet, which creates new gold alloys, including an ‘extra’ white gold coating for jewelry and accessories, coats premium materials including leather, wood, textiles and feathers, while preserving their natural texture.

For the first project of this new partnership, it has adorned watch dials designed by Authentic Material with 24-carat gold, using a dry, solvent-free process. The dials, part of Authentic Material's Original range of upcycled natural materials with no binders or additives, are made of wood, leather and horn.

"Collaborations are at the heart of our strategy, and with Daumet, we recycle material offcuts or manufacturing by-products to create a product with high added value and unique aesthetics,” comments Noémie Dumesnil, Chief Operating Officer of Authentic Material.

In April, Authentic Material announced a partnership with premium packaging supplier Gainerie 91. The move allows the materials specialist to enter the packaging market, and gives Gainerie 91 access to Authentic Material’s growing portfolio of materials. The two companies are looking at the suitability of various materials for different packaging shapes.

In December 2019, Authentic Material raised €1.5m in funding from investors Bpifrance and Cuir Invest.
