Luxury scotch whisky brand Royal Salute (Chivas Brothers – Pernod Ricard) has come out with a limited-edition coffret in celebration of Chinese New Year. Housing The Signature Blend, a 21 Year Old whisky, the coffret sports illustrations of dragons, lanterns and firecrackers.
For Royal Salute’s red and gold gift pack created for Lunar New Year, UK-based agency Boundless Brand Design worked with coffret manufacturer GPA Luxury and artist Brett Ryder. The pack’s artwork is designed to bring to life a Chinese New Year street festival, and includes firecrackers and lanterns, along with the traditional symbol of a decorative lucky knot that transforms into a dragon, “breathing life into the new year celebrations.”
The rigid box (GPA Luxury) is wrapped in red uncoated paper and features spot UV printing and foils, as well as 3D sculpted emboss and micro-emboss, adding depth and texture. The front opening boxes have invisible hinges and sport color-matched satin ribbons to facilitate opening. Inside, the bottle nestles in an alcove; the top secured by a plastic plug and the base resting in a concealed fitment.
Contained within the coffret is The Signature Blend, housed in a porcelain flagon (Wade Ceramics) glazed in sapphire – a nod to the precious stone set within the British Imperial State Crown – and adorned with a golden-colored stopper (Guala Closures) and labels (MCC Labels).
In addition to the Chinese New Year gift pack, GPA Luxury and Boundless Brand Design created two other limited-edition coffrets for Royal Salute, each marked with a quote and signature from the artist behind the illustrations.
The Celebration pack was inspired by Royal Salute’s history – the whisky was created to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Wrapped in dark blue paper, the design by Kristjana S. Williams features the iconic Royal Salute lion, tartan butterflies and an oak cask. Garden Party, meanwhile, is a turquoise pack adorned with illustrations by Mariana Rodrigues evoking the spirit of an English summer garden party.
