In response to the coronavirus health crisis, spirits brand Ricard (Pernod Ricard) is donating 70,000 liters of pure alcohol to French pharmaceutical company Cooper, one of France’s main suppliers of hand sanitizer.
The donation, the equivalent of some 1.8 million 50ml bottles, will allow Cooper to boost its deliveries of alcohol to pharmacies producing hand sanitizer on their own premises. Cooper, meanwhile, has committed to matching Ricard’s donation by giving to associations in the healthcare sector.
Other entities of Pernod Ricard group are also working to convert their spirits production to that of hand sanitizer, or to supply pure alcohol.
Absolut Vodka’s distillery in Sweden is donating alcohol, while Pernod Ricard Spain and Irish Distilleries are making their production lines and technical expertise available to authorities to make hand sanitizer.
Pernod Ricard USA has also announced that it will repurpose its spirits production to that of hand sanitizer at all of its US manufacturing sites for domestic use in the fight against Covid-19.
The group said that other initiatives are underway, notably in the UK, and will be announced in due course.
