ELC selects Roctool technology for packaging decor

Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) is to use heat-molding specialist Roctool’s technology across its portfolio as part of the group’s sustainable packaging efforts.

Clinique is the first brand from ELC’s portfolio to use Roctool’s technology for its beauty packaging, beginning with its 200ml Clarifying Lotion bottles. The pack is manufactured by Pinard Beauty Pack.

Roctol’s patented production technique flash-heats production molds via induction before a material enters the mold, making for a surface devoid of defects including flow lines, sink marks or blush, while maximizing surface gloss. The technology is said to eliminate the need for secondary decoration processes due to the enhanced surface finish it provides. Waste is reduced by 10%-15% during production, while maintaining quality, says ELC.

The new bottle will first roll out to Europe, with ELC planning to scale the technology globally across its portfolio of brands.

Earlier this year, ELC announced it had inked a deal with Eastman to use the company’s recycled resins in its packaging.
