Filigree Gin: a super-premium gin goes for gold

An age-old intricate metalwork technique used in jewelry inspired both Filigree Gin’s name and packaging design. Filigree pieces adorn the 24-carat gold-plated bottle and cap of the super-premium spirit, which will hit the market later this year.

For its Filigree Gin, Portuguese company Caistur entrusted the creative direction and graphic design to ThinkBold Studio, a specialist in wine and spirits packaging design. The pack takes its cues from filigree. This ornamental work, with its roots in Portugal, consists of fine metal threads and small metal balls welded together to form a design.

The gin is housed in a handmade ceramic bottle; the stoneware is fired at high-temperatures, resulting in a “stable, resistant, and waterproof product”, explains ThinkBold Studio. “The 100% manual process is what makes it original,” the agency adds. The bottle is then gold-plated in 24-carat-gold, and adorned with a filigree piece.

Produced using artisanal techniques, the gold-plated filigree also features on the cork cap. The bottle’s facing sports a black and gold embossed aluminum label (VOX Artes Gráficas).

Filigree Gin is a barrel-aged gin that blends 12 botanicals. It is launching later this year in a limited run of 75 bottles.
