Fives to build electric furnace for Pochet du Courval's glassworks

Groupe Pochet has selected industrial engineering group Fives to construct an electric furnace for luxury flacons at its Guimerville glassworks. Representing an investment of between €22m and €30m, the furnace is slated to be operational by the end of 2024.

Groupe Pochet announced in May that it will build France’s first electric furnace dedicated to luxury flaconnage. The family-owned glassmaker has now inked a strategic partnership with all-electric melting technologies specialist Fives, who will design and supply the furnace to Pochet du Courval’s Guimerville plant in Normandy.

Pochet says that the furnace, a Prium E-Melt cold-top vertical melter, “is one of the most advanced technologies available to significantly reduce CO2 emissions”. Indeed, by offering carbon-free glass to perfume, skincare and make-up brands, Pochet du Courval is aiming to reduce the CO2 emissions of its production by 50% by 2033.

“This is a major transformation project for Pochet du Courval, both on an industrial level and in workforce terms, as teams will need to be trained in this new technology,” the glassmaker tells Luxe Packaging Insight.

As previously reported, the furnace represents an investment of between €22m and €30m (supported by Pochet Group’s private shareholders) depending on capacity – a parameter that remains under wraps for now. Work has already begun, and the furnace will be operational at the end of 2024.

Pochet’s Guimerville plant manufactures and decorates more than one million glass bottles and jars per day destined for fragrance and beauty.
