Forged Gin: forging an Art Deco inspired brand image

Family-owned premium spirits distillery Forged Spirits (previously Forged in Wakefield) has rebranded, with a new visual identity and packaging design. Forged Gin is the distillery’s first spirits range to feature the new packaging.

UK-based premium spirits distillery Forged Spirits has unveiled a new bottle design – moving from a standard to a bespoke vessel – beginning with its new Forged Gin range. The bottle (Stoelzle) takes its cues from the 1920s Art Deco movement and the industrial heritage of Wakefield, the British town where the spirits are distilled. The design department at Stoelzle Flaconnage, the glassmaker’s UK site, came up with the bottle’s distinctive shoulder detailing: the defined edges on the shoulders were formed using small radii on the internal surfaces of the molds. The sides are embossed with Forged in Wakefield, an homage to the gin’s former name.

Keen to work with local suppliers, the brand selected Wakefield-based agency Rhubarb Design House for the rebranding and new label design. Created to amplify the bottle’s unique angular profile, the label (The Label Makers) features three sections fanning into a sunburst shape. Printed on Fedrigoni’s Savile row tweed White substrate, the label’s illustrations depict Wakefield’s manufacturing history and coal mining, accentuated with golden hot foil accents (Kurz). The bottles are topped with a wooden head cork stopper (Berlin Packaging) that is laser engraved with the brand logo.

The brand plans to expand its spirits offer to new segments including vodka and rum. The Forged Gin range comprises eight flavored gins.
