GreenSpense debuts refillable, propellant-free dispensing system

Israeli company GreenSpense presented a refillable version of its EcoDrive propellant-free dispenser intended for the personal care, cosmetics and home care markets.

An alternative to aerosols, GreenSpence’s EcoDrive solution is based on a pocket valve system inserted in an expandable elastomer sheath. The system is place inside a container that can be either PCR PET, PCR aluminum or even cardboard. The inner pouch's  aluminum coating makes it compatible with a wide range of formulations. In addition, the system can offer up to 5 bars of pressure, which makes it adaptable to particularly viscous products, with a continuous 360 degree diffusion.

This complex and multi-material packaging is now reusable. It can be refilled either in an industrial site or - and this is new - at the point of sale. At retail, this is done via a machine that has the look and size of a coffee machine. The device is patented by Italian company Fillinfinite and works using IOT (Internet of Things) technologies.

A QR Code or RFID chip allows each pack to be traced, and for the machine to be shut off when its maximum number of uses has been reached. Tests carried out by GreenSpense show that EcoDrive can be reused up to 10 times without losing dispensing power. Fillinfinite has tested up to 100 reuses, at which point there is a moderate loss of power.

GreenSpense is expected to achieve revenues in excess of $1m by 2023. Backed by private investors and venture capitalists, the company will open a fully automated factory in Israel in February. This $4m investment will enable the company to produce several million units of dispensers.
