Renowned architect Frank Gehry has partnered with cognac brand Hennessy on limited-edition decanters made using Baccarat crystal. Each handmade decanter required a specific mold.
After the decanters created for Hennessy X.O's 150th anniversary in 2020, Frank Gehry has once again collaborated with the LVMH-owned cognac brand. This time, the Canadian-born architect dreamed up a mathusalem format encased in Baccarat crystal.
The six-liter decanter recreates the form of the iconic Hennessy X.O bottle, enveloped in Baccarat crystal; its shimmering, reflective surface is designed to evoke the look of ice. The design and the decanter’s large format were a technical challenge for Baccarat, which developed new techniques, specific tools and adapted thermal cycles. Each handmade decanter required its own mold – making each “sculpture” unique – and 30kg of Baccarat crystal.
"This design takes Frank Gehry's signature sculptural style, Baccarat's know-how, and Hennessy's daring sensibilities to the next level,” Laurent Boillot, Hennessy President and Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement. “Crystal is expertly carved in a way that mimics the look of the classic serve of Hennessy XO over ice, something that provided inspiration to Gehry during the design process."
Each of the 30 decanters hold Hennessy's Extra Old Cognac. They are priced at €150,000.
