House of Hazelwood debuts with eight rare whiskies

A new player in the spirits industry, House of Hazelwood has entered the whisky market with a range of eight rare whiskies. The brand opted for tall, cylindrical decanters to house the aged spirit collection.

The premise behind new whisky company House of Hazelwood is to offer once-private collections of rare, aged whiskies for release in small batches. For its debut, the brand divided the range into two collections: four releases in The Charles Gordon Collection, aged for at least 50 years, and four in The Legacy Collection, aged for a minimum of 30 years.

The whiskies are presented in bespoke decanters (Glencairn Crystal) designed by Scottish premium drinks packaging design specialist Bombcrater. Made of premium extra-flint glass, the decanters have a flat, heavy base and extra wall thickness adding weight to each bottle. The Charles Gordon decanters are hand engraved and infilled in gold (Glencairn Crystal), while The Legacy Collection features a digitally printed, irregularly-cut paper label (CCL Labels) applied by hand. Each bottle is individually numbered.

Both collections are topped with a bespoke metal and cork stopper (Glencairn Crystal), engraved with the brand logo and plated in a custom shade named pastel satin gold. A metal collar (Glencairn Crystal) with matching satin-effect finish wraps around the bottle’s neck.

The Legacy Collection is presented in a rectangular recycled cardboard gift box (Pusterla Pollards) with litho-printed text embossed with gold foil. The Charles Gordon Collection comes in handmade, solid oak boxes (Moran’s Wood Components), hand engraved with gold infill. Once opened, the boxes can serve as presentation cases for the decanters, with the tasting notes and the spirit’s history written on the back.

The whiskies offered in the range have been collected for seven decades by generations of the Gordon family, founders of House of Hazelwood. Launched in June, the collection ranges in price from £950 to £3,000 for 70cl.
