Indie brand Innerbark Europe opts for Sulapac packaging

Spain-based niche player Innerbark Europe’s “sustainable, affordable and luxury” body and skincare, launched last month, is housed in biodegradable Sulapac jars with compostable labels. The brand is gearing up to launch a facial skincare range this May.

Indie brand Innerbark Europe debuted its I Body collection last month with five products that include an Anti-Aging Gold Face and Body Mask containing kaolin clay and colloidal gold particles, and a Hydrating and Firming gel with green tea extract.

The sustainable approach the brand takes to its natural formulas also extends to packaging. Innerbark chose jars (Quadpack) made from Sulapac, a bio-based composite that is industrially compostable and biodegradable. The biodegradable labels printed with plant-based inks (Berkshire Labels) are made of NatureFlex, a cellulose film made by Japanese company Futamura. They are affixed to pack using Berkshire Labels' BioTak compostable adhesive.

In the future, the brand plans to move to embossing and screenprinting for the jars, and refills are also on the cards. “Discussion is also underway with Sulapac on their development of a removable insert allowing for refills,” explains Innerbark Co-founder Nichola Vickers.

This May, Innerbark is set to launch daily facial skincare range I Beauty.
