Littlemill distillery celebrates 250 years of craftmanship

Scottish distillery Littlemill has unveiled its oldest release to date – a 45-year old Lowland single malt scotch whisky. Conceived to celebrate the crafts of distilling and photography, the hexagonal design of the hand-cut crystal decanter is inspired by vintage camera lenses.

To commemorate its 250th anniversary, Scotland’s first and oldest licensed whisky distillery Littlemill has launched a 45-year old single malt whisky. Design agency Pocket Rocket Creative was behind the packaging concept, while Scottish glassmaker Glencairn Crystal executed the decanter.

The bespoke 30% lead crystal decanter is hand blown in the shape of Littlemill’s previous launch Testament, released in 2021. Inspired by a traditional camera aperture, each anniversary edition decanter features an intricate hand-cut hexagonal design on its facing. The lettering on the front is hand engraved and infilled with gold.

A hand-turned and manually finished gold-plated metal collar wraps around the decanter’s neck, while a custom polished brass stopper (both Hayward & Stott) - bearing the special milestone years from the distillery’s history - tops the bottle.

The Littlemill 250th anniversary edition comes in a wooden presentation case (Morans Wood Components) evoking a Victorian bellows camera box. A high-polish, black-plated brass piece featuring a hand-engraved crystal lens (Glencairn Crystal) decorates the coffret’s facing.

The distillery worked with Austrian photographer Stefan Sappert on 250 silver on black glass photographic plates, which are nestled in a drawer beneath the decanter. Each box contains a 5cl miniature that allows collectors to taste the whisky while keeping the original decanter intact.

Distilled in 1976, the 250th anniversary release is the distillery’s oldest age statement to date. Just 250 individually numbered bottles are available, priced at €10,700.
