LUXE PACK New York innovation round-up part two

The LUXE PACK New York show welcomed 3,490 visitors for this year's edition, an 18% increase on 2021, alongside its 160 premium packaging suppliers. After highlighting a selection of products on show at The Exploratorium, we continue our coverage with a round-up of what was seen and heard on the show floor.

TNT Global Manufacturing, a specialist in zamak caps with a strong position in the fragrance market, highlighted its desire to develop its presence in the wine and spirits segment as illustrated by its intricate zamak cap created for Stambecco. In a move to produce closer to its customers, TNT has begun manufacturing zamak caps in Europe with a partner. “We have fully integrated vertical production in Asia and are implementing the same system in Europe,” explains Co-Founder Thomas Diezinger. “We are starting with perfume, but want to push quickly into wine and spirits.”

Germany’s Peyer Graphic showed its EZ-Deco glass finishing technology. Suitable for flint and coated glass, it can be used to create ultra-fine multicolor gradients, solid spot colors and metallization. Designs are printed using a heat transfer film that adheres to the glass thanks to an integrated primer.

Fusion PKG, which presented its new Max Out Tottle in The Exploratorium area of LUXE PACK New York, showed new and upcoming airless innovations. For its third-generation metal airless pump, plastic surrounds the metal spring, meaning the metal is not in contact with the formula. In July, the supplier is launching its first 100% plastic airless packaging with a polyolefin (EVO) spring. At end-of-life, the pack can be reycled in the PP stream without needing to separate the components.

Along with its Iconic Woodacity refillable lipstick developed with Aptar Beauty + Home, beauty packaging supplier Quadpack showcased a wooden refillable jar and compact. Both feature the same patented twist-and-lock opening and closing system as the lipstick. The compact's aluminum pan can be glued or held in place with a removable magnet. The jar has a PP removable inner cup and a PE liner. In terms of decoration, the packs can be hot-stamped, laser engraved, silkscreened or spray coated.

South Korean start-up Innerbottle showed its eponymous product. An RPET pouch introduced into the neck of the bottle inflates on the filling line, fulfilling the fuction of a liner. As the contents of the bottle is used up, it shrinks, keeping the outer bottle clean. Innerbottle says that while conventional dispensers leave up to 25% residue, its pouch results in less than 1% product waste. Along with a paper bottle, the supplier showed prototypes of Innerbottle jars and compacts.

Albéa highlighted its EcoFusion Top, a single-component open-and-close system in HDPE that is said to cut down on plastic use by 55% compared to a standard tube. It can be used with the beauty packaging supplier’s laminate, extruded or paper tubes.

Eurostampa showed the results of its R&D partnership in Europe with German company Inuru that began in 2021. Presenting an OLED label prototype that can be motion- or sound-activated, the labels specialist said it intends to launch the industrial trial at LUXE PACK Monaco as part of its annual Envelope Project. Spirits and cosmetics are target markets for the illuminated label.

And in case you missed it, here are the LUXE PACK in Green winners in New York.
