A lipstick with an oriental pack design, a clean color care product and a freeze-dried formula packaged in ampoules were among MakeUp in Shanghai’s IT Products award winners for 2020.
Luxe Packaging Insight takes a closer look at some of the winning products from the July show, which crowned eight winners from among 26 submissions.
The Catkin Summer Palace Phoenix Lipstick CR138 from GZ Colorite Cosmetic was singled out for its design in the Full-Service category. The primary pack features a magnetic closure, an oriental design and was decorated with what the brand calls a “micro carving” technique. The lipstick is nestled in a coffret that boasts four layers of printing, including smooth gold, 3D relief effect and a frosted grain texture.
LB+Nature Cosmetic scooped an IT Product Award in the Full Service category for its patented freeze-dried ampoules, which contain active ingredients in the form of lyophilized powder in the lower part and the liquid formula in the upper part. To use, consumers simply remove the pull strip in the middle then push the lower part into the upper, shaking the ampoule to fully dissolve the formula. The brand says the ampoule format solves problems such as inaccurate dosage, oxidation of ingredients and loss of activity. The product has six functions, including anti-wrinkle, antioxidant and repair.
Sethic Innovation Lab took home three awards, all in the Formulation category. It won an award for its Adaptogen Essence BB Foundation, which contains a ferment from black soybean milk said to hydrate, soothe and repair the skin. The product also boasts oil control and long-lasting properties thanks to a plankton extract, while two fermented adaptogens—super-herb gingseng and super mushroom cordyceps—claim to provide an anti-aging effect and are said to help restore skin vitality.
Sethic Innovation Lab also scooped an award for its Clean Lip & Cheek Tint, which is formulated with 99.62% EWG green ingredients. The product contains an oil-in-water emulsifier for a smooth texture, and a blend of natural lipids and ceramides said to mimic the structure of the lip’s layers to help protect skin integrity.
The company’s Smart Makeup Shield Mist was also singled out for its ingredients; the formula claims to offer “one second absorption” thanks to a nano-sized emulsifier that reduces droplet size to about ten-times smaller than a standard emulsion. The mist is also said to provide an anti-pollution effect due the inclusion of film-forming polysaccharides.
