Scottish B Corp-certified distillery Nc’nean kicked off its 2022 spring series with a new whisky called Huntress. The whisky comes in a 100% PCR glass bottle.
Drimnin-based organic spirits distillery Nc’nean has launched Huntress after experimenting with using three different rum and wine yeasts in whisky production. This release marks the first product in the brand’s new spring seasonal range of whiskies.
The spirit is housed in a blue 100% recycled glass bottle (Estal), a first for the UK spirits industry, according to Nc’nean. The brand opted to forego a traditional label, but instead digitally printed the hand-painted botanical illustration directly onto the glass. Water-based inks, and silver hotstamping feature on the facing. The neck label is printed on uncoated paper, while a clear side label is the only part of the packaging containing plastic (both are the work of Premier Labels).
Huntress is topped with a Portuguese cork and wooden head (Berlin Packaging) stopper bearing the brand logo. As for the secondary packaging, the bottle comes in a UK-made cylindrical gift box (Visican) with the same botanical illustrations as the bottle. The boxes are made of cardboard and printed paper with 90% recycled card content; the inner tube is the recycled portion and is covered in a printed wraparound ‘label’.
The packaging design marks a collaborative effort between the in-house marketing team and the brand founder Annabel Thomas, a branding agency and a freelance designer.
The Nc’nean distillery only uses organic Scottish barley for its spirits and is powered by a biomass boiler that runs on wood chips from the local forest. It obtained verified net zero status in 2020 and is certified B Corp.
Huntress launched to coincide with Earth Day on April 22, and retails at €100.
