Pujolasos launches compostable cap for fragrance

The luxury market’s first compostable cap? That’s the claim wood packaging specialist Pujolasos is making with the launch of Woork, an innovation described as “100% organic and compostable”.

The wood options include ash, beech, maple, oak and zebrano to name just a few and are certified either PEFC or FSC. The patented solution, which targets premium fragrance, is a two-part system composed of a wooden cap with a cork insert; the two components fit together without calling for any plastic parts or glue.

"One of the technical challenges in this project was in removing the plastic component without altering the cap's functionality, as well as ensuring the grip between the wood and the cork without using glue. Another challenge was in making make large quantities at a very competitive price," explains Gal.la Romera, innovations & new developments manager at Pujolasos. From a technical standpoint, the cap is designed to suit all pump or bottleneck formats, according to its maker.
