Univerre looks to premiumization with Crystal Spirit acquisition

With Crystal Spirit, glass packaging distributor Univerre is strengthening its luxury market positioning and geographic reach.

Glass packaging wholesaler Univerre has purchased fellow French company Crystal Spirit (Rica Consulting & Design). The move enables Univerre to pursue its premiumization strategy and expand its market footprint.

Founded in 2013, Crystal Spirit is specialized in crystal decanters for prestige spirits including whisky, armagnac, cognac and rum. The company offers five stock decanter lines in various formats. Decoration options include metallization, partial sandblasting and cutting.

Univerre will continue to offer Crystal Spirit’s existing product offer, as well as create new models.

"The purchase of Crystal Spirit’s assets is an act of faith for crystal,” Univerre founder Fabrice Tourres said in a statement. “Under threat in its current form of lead crystal, we will now be able to supply lead-free crystal decanters that will retain all the visual qualities and attractiveness of crystal (brilliance, transparency) while meeting sustainable development requirements.”

Specialized in glass packaging for the spirits and non-alcoholic beverages category, Univerre was founded in 2000. The company has 10 staff and reported sales of over €7m in 2022. More than 90% of its sales are done at export.

The company has developed packaging for brands including Maison Maréchal, Mimocella and Arrangé Blard.
