Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton: When color pops!

Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton: When color pops!

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has brought her signature colors and motifs to Louis Vuitton’s fragrance packaging. Inkjet printing, hot stamping and clear lacquer were used to embellish the flacons.

Three of Louis Vuitton’s iconic fragrance flacons (Pochet du Courval) designed by Marc Newson have undergone a metamorphosis at the hands of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. With its Painted Dots, Infinity Dots theme, the collection is inspired by a Vuitton trunk that Kusama hand painted in 2012.

The first part in the two-part fragrance collaboration reinterprets the packaging of three perfumes: Attrape-Rêves, Spell On You and L’Immensité. Kusama’s dots on the glass are reproduced by French supplier Carbon Décor using inkjet printing and clear lacquer.  Men’s fragrance L’Immensité also features silver hot stamping. The fragrance name is screenprinted on the bottle’s facing by Pochet du Courval.

The dots are also printed on the fragrances’ leather travel cases.

The three fragrances are composed by Louis Vuitton house perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. Attrape-Rêves blends notes of peony, patchouli heart and lychees; Spell On You contains iris pallida and rose, and L’Immensité mixes notes of grapefruit and ginger.

The first three designs launched in January. The 100ml EdP retail at €320, while the travel cases cost €670.

A second design, which will include the Ultimate Flacon in Baccarat crystal for Spell on You, will hit store shelves in March 2023.
